Route 1: Via Yellapur
Gokarna → Kumta → Yellapur → Dandeli
Why choose this: The route most travellers love. Passes through dense Western Ghats forest, closest to Yana Caves and Vibhuti Falls. Excellent scenery.
Route 2: Via Mirjan & Joida
Gokarna → Mirjan → Joida → Dandeli
Why choose this: Slightly faster and more direct. Perfect if you just want to stop at Mirjan Fort and reach Dandeli quickly.
Route 3: Via Hubli
Gokarna → Hubli → Dandeli
Avoid unless necessary: Significantly longer, passes through urban areas, no scenic value. Use only if ghats are closed.
5 Must-Stop Places En Route
The real magic of this road trip is in the stops. Don't drive straight through.
1. Mirjan Fort
A 16th-century laterite stone fort on the banks of the Aghanashini River. Quiet, green, and crowd-free on weekdays. Excellent for photography.
2. Vibhuti Falls
An underrated 60-foot multi-tiered cascade hidden in the forest. A short walk brings you to crystal clear natural pools where you can swim. Far less crowded than Jog Falls.
3. Yana Caves
Massive black limestone rock formations rising dramatically out of thick forest. Inside the base of the rocks, there are naturally formed Shiva shrines.
4. Idagunji Temple
A powerful 500-year-old Ganesha temple on the Sharavathi River. A major pilgrimage site with a peaceful riverside setting.
5. Yellapur (Lunch Stop)
The last proper town before Dandeli. Stop here for an authentic and cheap Uttara Karnataka Jowar Roti thali.

Day 1: Beaches & Drive
Gokarna Beach Trek (Main → Kudle → Om → Half Moon).
Lunch at a shack, check out.
Depart Gokarna. Visit Mirjan Fort. Arrive in Dandeli by evening for dinner & bonfire.
