3 Transport Options

Choose the right mode of transport based on your budget and group size.

✅ Best Option

Private Car / Self-Drive

The most flexible way to travel. You can stop at waterfalls and forts without any time pressure.

  • Taxi fare: ₹2,000 – ₹4,200
  • Fuel cost: Approx. ₹700 – ₹900
  • Time: 2.5 – 3 hours
💰 Budget Option

By Public Bus

No direct bus exists. Requires changing buses, making it a 6–8 hour journey.

  • Route A: via Ankola & Yellapur
  • Route B: via Kumta & Hubli
  • Total fare: ₹200 – ₹450
❌ Avoid

By Train

No direct train. The workaround takes 8+ hours and is highly impractical.

  • Gokarna Rd → Londa Jn → Taxi
  • Train is weekly only
  • Huge waste of time
Without your own vehicle? Completely possible. Most resorts handle activity transfers inside Dandeli, so you don't need a vehicle once you reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to drive from Gokarna to Dandeli?

Yes, the roads are generally in good condition. The ghat sections require normal caution. Avoid driving after 9 PM on forest stretches near Dandeli as wildlife crossings are common and dangerous in the dark.

Which should I visit first — Gokarna or Dandeli?

Most itineraries start with Dandeli (for adventure, which requires energy) and end in Gokarna (for beach relaxation). However, if arriving from Bengaluru, Dandeli is closer to start with.

Can I combine both in a 2-day weekend trip?

Yes, but it'll be rushed. You'd need to drive on Day 1 and pack activities into Day 2. A 3-day trip gives you a much more satisfying experience.
