Is Rafting Open Today?

Season dates (Sept 1 - May 31) alone don't tell the full story. Availability depends strictly on water release from Supa Dam. No release means no rafting.

  • Check KPTCL Status: Visit kptclsldc.in/StateGen.aspx
  • Rule: If Supa Dam gate shows non-zero values → operational.
  • Rule: If values are 0 → generally unavailable.

Always confirm by WhatsApp before arriving.

Best Time & Common Mistakes

Period Conditions
October – December Peak season, good water levels, heavy crowds on weekends
January – March Best Time: Pleasant weather, fewer crowds, ideal for most
April – May High demand due to summer holidays, book in advance
June – August Long rafting closed; only short water activities available

Avoid These Mistakes

  • Visiting during monsoon expecting long rafting (closed Jun-Aug).
  • Last-minute booking on weekends. Book 3-5 days ahead.
  • Not checking dam release. No release = no rafting.
  • Arriving late. Slots are time-based; you may lose your session.
  • Choosing on price alone. Cheap operators may cut corners on gear.

Alternatives (If Cancelled)

Rafting can cancel due to no dam release or heavy rain. Other options:

  • Kayaking: Self-paddle on calmer stretches
  • Boating: Relaxed ride on the Kali River
  • Coracle Ride: Traditional round boat for families
  • Natural Jacuzzi: Rocky pools with natural water jets
  • Wildlife Safari: Jeep safaris in the Sanctuary

Frequently Asked Questions

Can non-swimmers do rafting in Dandeli?

Yes. Life jackets are provided and a trained guide is on every raft. Non-swimmers regularly participate in both short and long rafting.

What should I wear for rafting?

Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet. Sports shoes or strapped sandals work. Avoid loose footwear that can come off in water. Leave valuables at the resort.

Can I bring my phone on the raft?

Not recommended. Waterproof pouches help, but there's a real risk of loss. Leave phones with someone at the reporting area or in a sealed bag.

Is Ganeshgudi the same as Dandeli?

No. Ganeshgudi is a separate village about 21 km from Dandeli town. It is the reporting point for river rafting. Factor in 35–45 minutes of travel time.

Is Dandeli rafting worth it compared to Rishikesh?

Different experience. Rishikesh has higher-grade rapids (up to Grade IV/V), but Dandeli rafting through dense Western Ghats forest has its own charm. If you're in South India, Dandeli is the closest equivalent and excellent value.
